Since on February 14, we offer our heart to a loved one, À la Mère de Famille takes the expression literally! Its elegant dark chocolate or milk chocolate mold is adorned with a delicate decoration of four-heart clovers and a pretty ribbon in the colors of the House. Why give chocolate on Valentine's Day?
Offering a gift that is both romantic and deliciously gourmet for Valentine's Day is a very old tradition... that dates back to the Aztecs! They consumed a drink made from cocoa, vanilla, pepper, cloves and other spices, "Xocolatl" (later renamed chocolate by the Spanish), reputed to have an aphrodisiac effect. Imported into Europe in the 17th century, chocolate was all the rage among those who wanted to stimulate their ardor. Its consumption was even prohibited in some convents, the drink " heating up minds and passions " good sisters.
Whether you believe in these virtues or not, chocolate does contain (in small quantities, however 😉) phenylethylamine. A very complicated name for a natural hormone, which is also called the "love hormone", because this endorphin causes the same sensations as being in love. His discovery was a huge success! The tradition of chocolate on Valentine's Day has since become well-established in romantic customs... and gourmets are not complaining!
How do our chocolates taste so good?
The À la Mère de Famille teams themselves select the cocoa beans from partner producers in Peru, Madagascar, Ecuador, Venezuela and many others, chosen for their level of requirement and their values. The different beans are then assembled, roasted and ground in our factory in Tours, France, according to traditional methods. Depending on the recipes, sugar, cocoa butter and possibly milk powder, in order to create our signature chocolate couverture with a unique taste. Our famous milk chocolate bar and our dark chocolate bar are shaped from this couverture, enhanced with other ingredients depending on our creations. Many gestures are still carried out by hand, in accordance with ancestral know-how. All this love gives an inimitable flavor to our sweets, and guarantees you the quality of the flavors of our chocolates.
